Our public hospitals treat around 165,000 people every year for accidental injuries, that is 19 people admitted into the hospital every hour, making accidents the third leading cause of hospitalization.
69,130 workers were injured on the job in 2006, that’s 189 people every day in one year alone. Many of these workers suffered injuries that resulted in more than a
week’s time off work.
In 2006, over 31,300 were injured in road accidents alone. That is one person injured every 16 minutes, either as a driver, passenger or pedestrian.
